Slippers are a tried-and-true holiday gift, and this year, there’s a certain pair that your tuned-in loved ones want to see under the tree: Bombas Sunday Slippers, which just clinched a coveted spot on Google’s Holiday 100 list of the season’s top-trending gifts. Our editors have tested the full lineup of Bombas slippers and we agree with the ranking — the Sunday Slippers are an unbeatable cozy gift to share this season.
Bombas offers a few different slipper silhouettes, including the Gripper Slippers and Ballet Slippers, both of which are designed for indoor wear with a sock-like, minimalist feel underfoot. But on TikTok, where you can comb through over 24 million posts about Bombas slippers, it’s the chic, shearling-covered Sunday slippers for women and men that have shoppers double tapping.
The Sunday Slippers are the sock brand’s only outdoor-friendly offering, notably designed with a rubber outsole for extra traction and a memory foam and EVA midsole that keeps you comfortable (and surprisingly supported) from the ground up. A full sherpa upper and lining maximize on warmth while adding a touch of texture to your go-to loungewear. The Bombas Sunday Slippers are available in five colorways for women and four for men, all of which fall in line with trending earth tones.
One Footwear News editor put these slippers to the test to asses their comfort, durability, and versatility for styling. Read on for her honest review of why Bombas’ Sunday silhouette is a not only a great holiday gift for men and women, but also a top slipper for plantar fasciitis and other common foot concerns.
I’m a diehard Bombas socks fan, however I’d all but written off the brand’s slippers as the Ballet Slippers and Gripper Slippers failed to provide my plantar fasciitis-prone feet with the support I need to feel comfortable. I was expecting Bombas’ Sunday Slippers to have a similar feel — more like souped-up socks than true slippers — but after sliding them on, my feet were met with plenty of cushioning and a hefty amount of arch support (a key feature I look for in shoes for plantar fasciitis).
Bombas’ Sunday Slippers are close to Ugg’s popular Tasman Slippers in their design. These comfortable shoes feature an elevated back heel that cups your feet in the shoes and prevents them from sliding out when you’re pattering around the house, plus a rubber outsole for traction on hardwood, tile, and slick sidewalks. I feel comfortable wearing them around the block for a quick walk, however I wouldn’t go so far as to sport them for an afternoon of errands, as my heels tend to slip out.
I give the Bombas Sunday Slippers highest marks for their plush, supportive cushioning. Many shoes with memory foam midsoles tend to collapse underfoot when you wear them; Bombas made a smart choice in pairing that material with EVA foam for more structure and support. This way, you’ll get the satisfaction of feeling your feet sink into a memory foam footbed, but you don’t have to worry about the slippers’ midsoles compressing with consistent wear.
Warmth is another category where the Sunday Slippers knock it out of the park — rather than using shearling for pure aesthetics, Bombas lined the entire slipper with the insulating material to keep your feet warm.
I recommend the Bombas Sunday Slippers for those who need a house shoe that’s stylish, but also supportive. It’s an excellent alternative to recovery sandals for wintertime wear, given the impressive warmth and elevated shearling details.
