The shoe debuted through a well-received Nigel Sylvester collaboration and has since received general releases in a number of attractive colorways. And with the new year approaching, a new colorway may prove to be the most alluring yet.

The Air Jordan 4 RM “Chrome” arrives with a trendy metallic polish on its synthetic leather and TPU overlays. When combined with the grid pattern on the lateral material, the effect ends up feeling particularly futuristic. A white base for the upper, as well as the midsole, allows the “Chrome” elements to stand out, and off-white laces provide a slight contrast. The outsole then arrives in a faint green.

Jordan Brand made the Air Jordan 4 RM at a lower price point than its antecedent model, and the upper has been entirely transformed with more uniform paneling. The intent was to reimagine the Air Jordan 4 for BMX, even before Nigel Sylvester had joined Jordan Brand and signed on as a collaborator, although the brand hasn’t pushed that angle much in its pitches to consumer. Down low, the sole unit remains unchanged from that that debuted 35 years ago.

With how popular metallic silver detailing has become in sneakers, particular on retro runners, the Air Jordan 4 RM “Chrome” appears due for a warm reception in 2025. It’ll be joined in anticipation by the “Pine Green” colorway, a close lookalike to the hit Nike SB x Air Jordan 4 from 2023.

The Air Jordan 4 RM “Chrome” will release in spring 2025 exclusively in women’s sizing. A more firm drop date is still to confirmed, and pricing is set at $150.

Last month, Saoirse Ronan stepped out in a similar style designed with a subtle open toe and a more prominent vamp. The patent shoes revealing only the tips of the wearer’s toes were courtesy of another celebrity-loved brand, Khaite.

Rounding out her chic all-black look, the “Drivers License” singer opted for no jewelry and wore her long brown hair pulled back into a chic ponytail for the star-studded event.

La Scandale patent-leather wedge sandals retail for $1,100.

Recently, Rodrigo has been seen wearing Manolo Blahnik Veralli leather ballet flats, Stuart Weitzman’s Posh Mary Jane pumps, and Amina Muaddi Charlotte satin pumps. When she’s not wearing designer shoes, the “Deja Vu” hitmaker has been known to step out in classic Converse Chuck Taylors and boots from timeless brands like Dr. Martens boots and Frye. She often performs in chunky platform Dr. Martens boots. For Halloween this year, she dressed up as a witch and pulled her costume together with Maison Margiela’s Tabi Mary Jane leather pumps.

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Through the Years, From 1929–2023 https://footwearnews.com/gallery/past-macys-thanksgiving-parade-photos/ Wed, 27 Nov 2024 19:00:45 +0000 https://footwearnews.com/?post_type=pmc-gallery&p=458286 2024 marks 100 years since the first Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade took place in 2024 — though it was then called Macy’s Christmas Parade. The highly-anticipated holiday tradition has stuck around for a century, with the official 100th parade coming up in 2026 due to the years it was on hiatus during World War 2. An American fixture, the parade is reflective of our evolving popular culture, with new balloons created to give all kinds of IP the larger-than-life treatment. From Felix the Cat to Baby Yoda, the event has seen a slew of beloved characters parade down the streets of New York City, in addition to pop stars, marching bands, Broadway performers, and more entertainment. And of course, Santa Claus can always be counted on to close out the parade. Journey into the past with photos of the parade spanning from 1929 to 2023.

Oprah Rocks Her Go-To Designer Sneakers While Modeling Telfar Puff Hoodie Coats With Gayle King on Instagram https://footwearnews.com/entertainment-news/culture/oprah-winfrey-brunello-cucinelli-sneakers-telfar-coat-1234735605/ Wed, 27 Nov 2024 18:06:41 +0000 https://footwearnews.com/?p=1234735605 Oprah Winfrey has been wearing Brunello Cucinelli sneakers nonstop this year. While most celebrities have been opting for Adidas Sambas or the Puma Speedcat sneaker, the TV mogul has kept several of the Italian designer’s casual shoes on rotation.

Most recently, in a post shared on her magazine’s Oprah Daily Instagram on Nov. 26, Winfrey was modeling one of the items that she listed as part of her 2024 “Oprah’s Favorite Things” list. In the clip, she is alongside longtime friend Gayle King and the magazine’s Creative Director Adam Glassman wearing some Telfar Puff Hoodie Coats and matching bags.

The Puffer Hoodie is a floor-length coat that combines the two essential winter garments into a single item—a hoodie and a puffer coat. The hood and shoulder area feature a softer material, like the one of a traditional hoodie, while the rest of the coat is made of quilted nylon puff. “We like Telfar and I think this is such a warm coat,” Winfrey says while wearing the cream version of the coat.

“We like it because we like Telfar,” King adds while showing off her look in a yellow coat and matching bad. “The color and the bag together it’s very chic, we like it. and he’s got good color variety, too.”

The Brunello Cucinelli Monili Trim Platform Sneaker retail for $995.

While King wore a pair of her go-to blue Sneex on her feet, Winfrey opted for a pair of Monili Trim Platform Sneaker by Brunello Cucinelli, which retail for $995. The shoes are a polyester knit and suede low-top sneakers with metallic beaded monili detailing.

The Italian made sneaker feature a flat heel, a round embellished-cap toe, a lace-up vamp, a cushioned footbed, a rubber outsole, and leather lining.

Winfrey has been rocking a variety of Cucinelli’s sneakers, and dressing them up and down for a range of events. Most recently, she showed her support for Kamala Harris taking the stage at a rally in Philadelphia ahead of the presidential election wearing a pair of white leather sneakers with molini mesh to the event. She wore a pair of white and gray canvas sneakers from the luxury brand while out and about in NYC in the summer, and again in September while heading to a taping of “Good Morning America.”

A Member of the World’s Tallest Family Credits Drag Queens for Helping Her Find ‘Cute’ High Heels https://footwearnews.com/entertainment-news/culture/guinness-world-records-tallest-family-in-the-world-shoes-1234734326/ Fri, 22 Nov 2024 22:59:33 +0000 https://footwearnews.com/?p=1234734326 Savannah Trapp-Blanchfield, the eldest sibling in the World’s Tallest Family, is over six-foot-eight — but that doesn’t stop her from wearing high heels.

The Trapp family, with an average height of about six-foot-eight between three children and two parents, received the title from Guinness World Records in 2022. Hailing from Minnesota, Savannah’s brother Adam Trapp is seven-foot-three while sister Molly Steede is six-foot-six; father Scott Trapp is six-foot-eight while mother Kristine Trapp is the shortest in the family at six-foot-three. In an interview with Guinness World Records, the family detailed their experiences living — and shopping — at their above-average heights.

“God bless the drag queens,” Savannah said. “This is the only way that I have high heels that fit me, right? ‘Cause I’m a women’s size 16, men’s size 15, so I wouldn’t have these opportunities for cute shoes if it wasn’t for the drag queens, right?”

She added, “Yes, even though I’m six-eight-and-a-half, I still wear heels. And I can even throw it back in six-inch heels, I can drop it to the ground, I can dance — I can do anything in six-inch heels.”

While shoe options might be limited for women who wear a size 16, there are brands making it their mission to create a more size-inclusive footwear industry. Journee, Dolce Vita, Aldo and Vaila Shoes are among these labels.

The Trapp family also discussed the difficulty of finding clothing that fits, with pants being an issue for multiple family members. Adam brought up the growing pains he felt along his journey to seven-foot-three.

The Trapps could likely understand what it’s like to walk in the shoes of 2024 Guinness World Record holder Eric Kilburn, Jr., who was named the teenager with the largest hands and feet. His struggle to find shoes that fit went viral and Shaquille O’Neal sent him clothing and footwear.

In addition to receiving shoes from a former NBA star, there are other upsides to being tall. The Trapps participated in sports, with Savannah receiving a full scholarship to play at the college level before retiring due to concussions. Scott also thinks that they have bonded as a family through their shared tallness — not to mention, there’s no shelf he can’t reach when shopping for groceries.

Dover Street Market’s Murdered-Out Nike Zoom Vomero 5 Comes to Life When Hit With Light https://footwearnews.com/entertainment-news/culture/dover-street-market-nike-zoom-vomero-5-release-date-2024-1234732628/ Tue, 19 Nov 2024 19:44:22 +0000 https://footwearnews.com/?p=1234732628 At first glance, Dover Street Market‘s 20th anniversary Nike Zoom Vomero 5 appears much like it and Comme des Garçons’ numerous other all-black collaborations. But there’s a secret contained in the sneaker’s materials, one that comes to life when hit with light.

The Dover Street Market x Nike Zoom Vomero 5 “20th Anniversary” features reflective overlays that include the toe detailing, Swoosh outline and heel wraparound. The mismatched Nike Swoosh and DSM hut logo on the heel stand out when the panel hosting it reflects, and DSM branding on the tongue tags and right insole are the lone white features.

Dover Street Market is kicking off its “Power of 20” initiative with the Zoom Vomero 5, and given the boutique’s history of collaborations, there should be ample special-edition product to follow.

Amid the retro running trend that’s swept the sneaker industry, the Zoom Vomero 5 has been a stalwart for Nike. The model originally launched in 2011 and was praised for the comfort and stability offered by its midsole with dual Zoom Air units and Cushlon foam and the upper’s dynamic caging at the midfoot and heel. A-Cold-Wall brought back the shoe in 2018 through a collaboration that gave the Zoom Vomero 5 a blocky, protruding heel — and the model then came back in full force beginning in 2022. And for a 13-year-old sneaker, the Zoom Vomero 5 still manages to stand out for its comfort.

The Dover Street Market x Nike Zoom Vomero 5 “20th Anniversary” will release Thursday, November 21, exclusive through Dover Street Market’s global stores and its E-Shop. Pricing is set at £165.

‘Jeopardy!’ Contestant Susan Stumme Impresses Fans With Extensive Footwear Knowledge in ‘Shoe Biz’ Category https://footwearnews.com/entertainment-news/culture/jeopardy-susan-shoes-shoe-biz-category-1234729600/ Mon, 11 Nov 2024 19:17:55 +0000 https://footwearnews.com/?p=1234729600 “Jeopardy!” contestant Susan Stumme has earned herself a new name: ‘Shusan.’

Commenters on the YouTube “Jeapardy!” account offered up this nickname after Stumme swept a category called “Shoe Biz” on the trivia show on Nov. 8. As one might guess, the category was focused entirely on the footwear industry.

Stumme, a journalist from Virginia, proved her love of shoes runs deep as she correctly answered all five questions in the category back to back, while her competitors Ross and Rachel were unable to interrupt her impressive streak. With clues testing the contestants’ knowledge of brands, retailers and corporate executives, the category was designed not for those with only a casual interest in fashion.

“You have $1,000 and it appears a love for shoes. What do you want to do?” host Ken Jennings said to Stumme as she encountered a Daily Double clue.

Of course, she made it a True Daily Double, ultimately racking up $3,200 thanks to her wealth of shoe knowledge while Ross and Rachel remained at $0 for the duration of the category. Although Rachel ultimately won the game, Footwear News honors ‘Shusan’ by looking back at the category she devoured.

Below are the clues from the “Shoe Biz” category, in the order in which Stumme answered them — check your answers below and discover if your shoe literacy measures up to hers.

  1. “Crikey! At last count its classic resin clogs came in 35 colors including Kiwi and Orange Zing.” ($400)
  2. “This online shoe retailer whose name derives from the Spanish word for shoe was acquired by Amazon in 2010.” ($600)
  3. “In ‘Shoe Dog,’ he wrote ‘I liked that Nike was the goddess of victory. What’s more important…than victory?'” ($800 and Stumme’s True Daily Double clue)
  4. “At 2,050, the Sacaria platform from the Co. of this Malaysian-born designer comes with a nearly 5″ heel and pearl embellishments.” ($1000)
  5. “Yee-haw! In the 1940s Frye introduced its first pair of these, the Rancher. ($200)

Answers:

  1. What are Crocs
  2. What is Zappos
  3. Who is Phil Knight
  4. Who is Jimmy Choo
  5. What are cowboy boots

Got all of them right? Then in the words of Ken Jennings, “Correct and you just ran that category.”

Watch Stumme sweep the “Shoe Biz” category below.
