Light blue straight leg jeans served as the casual foundation for Edgar-Jones’ sharp ensemble. The jeans were paired with a crisp collared black coat buttoned all the way to the top. This elegant garment was cinched at the waist with a slender black Gucci belt bearing a gold double G logo. A pair of narrow black sunglasses, also from the Italian brand, contributed to the stylish aura of the “On Swift Horses” star. Edgar-Jones’ ensemble was elevated by a black leather shoe, specifically the Women’s Gucci Horsebit Ballet Flat, which retails for $1,090. In tribute to a classic ballet shoe, the Italian-made shoe features a square tucked toe cap and dainty bow embellishment. Not one or two, but three thin buckled straps stretch across the top of the foot, creating a standout design. Additionally, the label’s silver-toned horsebit hardware adorns the upper, further differentiating the style from a classic ballet flat and making it that much more recognizable as a Gucci item.

Edgar-Jones sported Gucci shoes on multiple occasions this year. She wore a pair of black horsebit creeper loafers from the brand whilst promoting the summer blockbuster “Twisters,” one footwear moment among many striking looks displayed throughout the film’s press tour. The film was directed by Julien and Justen Turner, aka the Turner Brothers, who have collaborated in the past with A Ma Maniére’s parent company The Whitaker Group. A myriad of prominent figures from the fashion industry are featured in the film, including Angelo Baque, Hebru Brantley and Nina Chanel Abney, to name a few.

Part of the celebrations honoring 10 years of A Ma Maniére, a description of the film reads, “At the heart of the story is the Creative Resource Agency (CRA), an entity that plays a central role in the plot tying all the characters together: the CRA is the agency that was created to actualize the concept of a ‘Black Tax’ on minority creatives around the world, targeting those who are leading the creation of culture that influences society, including the movie’s characters.”

After its stop at the historic Apollo, “While You Were Sleeping” is heading to The Gathering Spot in Atlanta, Vintage Park in Houston and the Eaton Hotel in Washington, D.C. Additionally, screenings will be held at Cinelounge in Los Angeles from Dec. 18-25.

Ahead of the film’s release, A Ma Maniére also collaborated with Nike, Jordan Brand and Converse on a special collection commemorating its 10-year milestone.

Inspired by the store’s Wizard character, the reinterpretation of the popular Adidas Gazelle silhouette features a purple velour suede upper while the brand’s three stripes are colored a shiny gold hue. The Wizard himself partied with Styles P at the event, which took place at the company’s Upper West Side address of 147 W 72nd Street.

The limited-edition shoe also comes with a gift package including, but not limited to, a satin bag, stickers and a numbered hand tag. Having officially hit the market on Dec. 14, the “Wizard” sneaker is available at West NYC and Westnyc.com with a price marked at $130. A portion of the sales will be donated to the New York City-based collective Men at Work Healing.

The Gazelle remains one of Adidas’ most popular styles and is often the subject of reinvention. The German brand recently teamed up with Clarks, for example, to create a crepe-sole iteration of the shoe as part of Kith’s annual Kithmas collection.

T.I., an Atlanta native and co-founder of the record label Grand Hustle, wore a suit by Hideodi for the occasion, the same fashion house that outfitted Travis Hunter for his Heisman Trophy ceremony. The rapper’s look included white slouchy trousers and a white double-breasted blazer with black lapels. He wore his white button-down fastened to the top while sleek strips of fabric in an X-shape crossed over the lapels, serving as a dapper embellishment to the crisp ensemble. He accessorizes with a multi-colored, layered necklace look.

Meanwhile, the former Xscape singer wore a little black dress with elaborately sculpted fabric forming an elevated wavy design from top to bottom. This sinuous look was accented by dazzling accessories including a T-shaped necklace, silver watch and embellished purse.

Harris further glamorized her look with statement heeled sandals. Appearing to be a style from Dolce & Gabbana, the shoes featured a version of a T-strap formation which was heavily embellished with ornate crystals. In various shapes, the sizable crystals made for an eye-catching footwear moment. The shoes also featured a slingback strap and a stiletto heel boosting the singer-songwriter in height. Editorialist has a light pink version of the sandal currently on sale for $897.

Other stars to have stepped out in Dolce & Gabbana recently include Jennifer Lopez (wearing pink suede peep-toe platforms and metallic gold platforms); Ravyn-Simoné (wearing gray sneakers with braided laces); and Gwen Stefani (wearing black boots with a stiletto heel).

Holmes maintains a polished and smart approach to street style. For her special day, she wore a pair of Nili Lotan Emerson Jeans. The medium wash wide-leg blue jeans had lateral detailing at the knees; these cropped pants were paired with an elevated spin on a classic coat.

The outer garment was cinched at the waist with a glamorous gold belt featuring a ribbed texture and a draped chain connected to two circular adornments. Her hair was woven into a side braid and a black beanie helped her stay warm. Her stylish aura was emphasized by a pair of brown-tinted aviator sunglasses and a classic black tote.

A pair of everyday black boots pulled together Holmes’ look. The shoes appeared to be her go-to pair, the Staud’s Wally boot. The boot is available in an array of colors and they also come in knee-high and an ankle boot styles, but it’s unclear which length Holmes went for this time.

Crafted with what appeared to be a durable leather, the shoes were designed with a relatively flat vamp with a rounded, somewhat narrow square toe. A low block heel was visible in the back, contributing to the wintertime functionality of the shoe. A slouchy upper lent the boots a casual, well-loved quality.

Whether it’s Steve Madden’s “Big Head Girls” or Run DMC rapping “My Adidas,” there are certain ads that are harder to shake than others. FN looks back at a few of the most iconic shoe advertisements in recent history.

Steve Madden’s “Big Head Girls”

Initially running from 1997-2005, Steve Madden’s “Big Head Girl” ads featured women with digitally altered heads and limbs made to look intentionally disproportionate. The campaign was so famous it was featured in “The Wolf of Wall Street,” which Madden said in an interview “is unbelievable if you think about it.” In 2021, a new era of Big Head Girls was ushered in with a campaign starring Normani, Jordan Alexander, Sydney Sweeney, Nessa Barrett and Justine Skye. “We’ll always bring it back,” Madden told FN, “It’s never going away.”

Run DMC “My Adidas”

“My Adidas walk through concert doors/And roam all over coliseum floors” — Run DMC took the German footwear giant to new demographics with the 1986 song “My Adidas,” which is known to have strongly influenced the relationship between sneakers and hip-hop. The song led to a partnership with Adidas and a very memorable ad in which the rap hit can be heard. In the commercial, the group members take a dramatic journey to the stage wearing, of course, Adidas.

Converse Weapon NBA commercial

Another rap song from 1986 makes the list. A commercial for the Converse Weapon brought together NBA stars ranging from Magic Johnson to Larry Bird, as they all dropped bars revealing how the shoe enhanced their play. It was far from the last time that hip-hop intersected with footwear advertising.

Nike Air Mag “Back for the Future” commercial

Hollywood has also come to influence the shoe industry. The Nike Air Mag began as a fictional creation in “Back to the Future II,” entrancing audiences with its modern high-top design and elusive self-lacing technology. A version of the shoe actually hit the market in 2011, and a star-studded commercial paying homage to “Back to the Future” teased the release. Bill Hader plays a Nike employee trying to sell the shoe to Kevin Durant, whose dialogue references quotes from the iconic Robert Zemeckis film. The shoes were part of a fundraising effort for Parkinson’s disease through the Michael J. Fox Foundation.

Nike LeBron James Swimming Pool commercial

LeBron James showed off his comedic chops in a Nike commercial that aired at the start of the 2006-2007 NBA season. In the ad, he plays several characters of various ages and dispositions hanging out at a posh swimming pool. Who could forget James gracefully diving into the pool wearing a white suit as “Summer Madness” by Kool and the Gang crescendos?

Looking merry and cozy amid the holiday season, Washington wore a dark red dress with a high neckline, short sleeves and a long, A-line skirt. Washington has worn Emilia Wickstead in the past — in 2023, she made an appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” wearing a vibrant checkered dress and gloves from the brand, which were paired with Christian Louboutin pumps.

To go with her red dress, Washington wore black tights and a pair of black platform heels. The “UnPrisoned” actress likely opted for Aquazzura’s sleek So High 140mm pumps, which she recently wore to the ACLU SoCal Bill Of Rights dinner.

With a satiny sheen, the shoes featured a rounded almond toe and a statement-making block heel. The upper cut away at the sides and a slender strap wrapped around the ankle. The lustrous shoes were often hidden by her gown but they nevertheless blended with the sophistication of her ensemble. A similar style, though this one featuring a peep toe, is designed by Saint Laurent and costs $1,150 from Saks Fifth Avenue.

Washington opted for a more unconventional footwear silhouette for a previous engagement related to “The Six Triple Eight.” She attended a luncheon on Dec. 13 wearing a unique Burberry boot with faux fur trim. Prior to that, she attended the Paley Honors Fall Gala honoring Tyler Perry wearing pointed black heels with a dress by Christopher John Rogers.

Fanning’s ensemble included a pinstriped button-down neatly tucked high-waisted wide-leg trousers with a crease down each leg; the pants were cinched at the waist with a belt and a navy tie with a pattern was fastened at her neck. For some of the photos on the red carpet, Fanning unified the suit look with a double-breasted blazer with strong shoulders and a dramatic sharp lapel; the jacket was in the same taupe shade as her pants. Meanwhile, her hair was parted to the side and styled in sleek blonde waves while a singular pin contributed to her posh aura.

Her chic business vibe was enhanced by a pair of striking black pointed-toe wedges. The shoes featured an elongated pointed toe which curved into a narrow square-edged tip; the dramatic silhouette only emphasized the commanding nature of her outfit. The shoes appeared to be a design from Saint Laurent’s Spring 2025 Ready-to-Wear Collection.

Her stylist Samantha McMillen shared photos of the look on Instagram. The heels piqued a fan’s interest, who asked in the comments, “I’m curious about the shoe. Sling back kitten?” to which McMilled responded, “It’s a sling back metal wedge.” In another photo the stylist shared to her Instagram Story, Fanning’s shoe was visible revealing a thing slingback strap, an exaggerated pointed toe and a sleek, metal wedge.

Stella McCartney also makes a vegan black pump with a similar pointed toe; the brand’s Elsa style retails for $860 from Bergdorf Goodman.

Fanning has certainly been turning heads as she promotes “A Complete Unknown.” She wore a different menswear look hailing from Bottega Veneta last month which included hardware-adorned loafers. More recent footwear choices of Fanning’s have included black pumps from Shushu/Tong and off-white mules from Betzabe.

Sweeney’s outfit included a Fair Isle sweater hailing from Gucci. The caramel-colored wool-blend garment introduced additional earth tones in the Fair Isle pattern across the top; that portion also featured crystal embellishments which added subtle glamour to the wintery piece. From Net-a-Porter, the garment retails for $2,800. The knit article was tucked into a pair of cocoa-hued straight-leg pants in a material that looked like leather. Sweeney accented her look with a pair of brown-tinted sunglasses and understated jewelry.

Picking up the lightest hue in her Gucci sweater, Sweeney wore a pair of stark white boots from Amina Muaddi. The shoes featured a pointed toe and a distinctive sculpted heel with a wide base. In another distinguishable feature, the sole of the shoe and front of the heel offered a splash of a peachy hue to Sweeney’s ensemble. While the shafts of her boots were covered, she appeared to be wearing Amina Muaddi’s Georgia Glass Bootie — which can be found on Mytheresa currently on sale for $707 — or a similar silhouette in white from the brand.

The day before, Sweeney styled the same shoes with blue jeans as well as a sweater and a knit puffer jacket in off-white hues.

With past shoe picks including pink Jimmy Choo pumps and silver-tipped white Alexander McQueen pumps, Sweeney has shown she a taste for fine luxury footwear. However, she is also an ambassador for Hey Dude, a brand more firmly in the casual realm of the fashion world.
